WEB DEVELOPMENT

Faculty can request space to develop websites for instructional purposes and post their course(s) information, vitae, and related material. Student organizations may also request web space. Click on the links below to find out about restrictions and guidelines for requesting and setting up your web space.

It is the hope that this site will help web developers, from beginners to advanced users and everyone in between, to master the skill of presenting the University over the web.

Faculty/Instructional Sites
Faculty must have their MIDAS ID to activate their site online via ODUEdit. Once activated, please contact webadmin@odu.edu to finish setting up the appropriate permissions to maintain the site.

ODUEdit and Web Template
OCCS and the University Marketing Committee have agreed in the use of a template for all academic departments. Contact webadmin@odu.edu to find out more about the new web template.

WebDrive
OCCS supports Webdrive, a WebDAV client which supports secure file transactions to the university web server.

PHP + Oracle
To begin using php in combination with an Oracle database you must first obtain an Oracle - Academic Database account.

Styleguide and Graphic Identity
The University does allow a great degree of creativity in fashioning your own design. However, the degree of that creativity is not unlimited, and this site details the specific design codes that must be satisfied. This styleguide exists for reasons beyond the aesthetic, however - it also establishes important standards for accessibility.

Accessibility Rules
Accessibility refers to Web design that's conscientious of folks with physical and/or mental disabilities. By designing accessible pages, not only will you increase the effectiveness of your site, but you'll make your site easier for everyone to use.
