MANAGING YOUR H:\ DRIVE
Cleaning Up Your Home Directory
If you receive a message indicating that available disk space for your Home Directory is running low, you will need to remove some items from your H Drive. The following information is provided to help you safely clean up your H Drive and then maintain the Drive so that disk space is used efficiently.
When cleaning up your H Drive, DO NOT DELETE ITEMS FROM YOUR NOTES DIRECTORY. Also, DO NOT DELETE ITEMS FROM YOUR NT WORKSTATION PROFILE, except as indicated below.
Some word processing programs, specifically Word Perfect and Microsoft Word, default on the "save" command to a Directory named "Personal." It is referred to as "Personal" because items stored in this Directory become a part of your personal NT profile. When the Directory becomes overloaded with items that should not be part of your NT profile, the storage of that profile can require an excessive amount of server space.
To free up space in your Home Directory, it is suggested that you move or delete items from your "Personal" Directory. The "Personal" Directory is a sub-directory of your Windows NT Workstation Profile. This is the only folder in your Windows NT Workstation Profile from which you should delete items.
To delete items:
- Select the items which you want to delete - you can select more than one item at a time by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the individual file names.
- With the files selected, from the File pulldown menu, select "Delete."
To move items:
- Select the items which you want to move - you can select more than one item at a time by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the individual file names.
- With the files selected, drag to the new location in which the items will be stored.
