Customers who inadvertently damage or destroy a file that is stored on a University server can request to have the file restored from server backup tapes. The success of the restoration process is dependent, however, upon how well backup applications and hardware properly capture the files. Users can help to ensure successful file restorations by logging out of their Windows workstation (log off the network) at night and on weekends.
The backup software in some areas does provide for a backup of open files; however this process continues to be problematic. Therefore, it is highly recommended that everyone log out of the network every night, not only for backups, but also for proper security.
Steps for requesting file restoration are included on this page. Prior to requesting file restoration from tape, it is recommended that you try the steps provided.
