Lotus Notes to Exchange Migration with Office 2007
Office 2007: Status
The deployment of Office 2007 to the University has been a difficult decision and process. On the surface, the migration to Exchange 2007 should only require the use of Outlook (Microsoft's client). However, as the project grew to include many new services such as IM, SharePoint and Email Archiving, The requirement to provide all the services in the initial deployment became apparent. Additionally, research was done at many sister institutions across the state on problems that had been encountered during similar changes. These institutions reported significant problems attempting to move in a piecemeal fashion.
The following information details the project status for this adventure.
March 24
Decision finalized to deploy the Office 2007 suite (entire suite).
March 28
Began initial review of Office 2007 suite and application software/hardware requirements.
April 9
Reviewed University Zen inventory for hardware compatibility issues of desktops across the campus. Report provided to all TSP's.
April 22
Office 2007 NAL Object delivered for initial deployment testing. This uses temporary license key which must be upgraded prior to full use.
April 25
Microsoft Campus Agreement signed for University to include CALs and Office 2007 Enterprise suite. Final License Keys delivered.
May 1
Began detailing training and familiarization options for University.
May 12
Began selective deployment testing for application delivery.
May 13
Began developing initial deployment schedule for University. Deployment schedule coordinated with TSP's.
May 27
Campus ready deployment schedules finalized.
Jun 3
Finalized training and familiarization options that will be provided for staffs.
Jun 9
Conducted initial training session (testing format).
Jun 10
Final department level deployment testing (OCCS & CM).
Jun 18
Begin campus deployments for administrative staffs.
July 3
Complete Administrative staff Office deployments.
Jul 10
Begin Academic "early" installations and training (by request only).

Begin campus deployments for Academic staffs.
