Desktop OS Install (Windows, Linux or Mac OS X)

When a new computer is ordered for use on the University network, you will need to submit a request to have that PC installed and configured. All IT support requests, including PC installations, are coordinated through the OCCS Ticketing system - Footprints. You can visit the OCCS Technical Support Center web site for instructions on how to access/use Footprints (http://occs.odu.edu/support/tsc/index.shtml).

You can open an incident to have your computer installed as soon as you have confirmation that it has been ordered. However, please understand that OCCS does not track order delivery and does not influence speed of delivery. Submitting your request early will not speed up the delivery but will help us coordinate installation. Submit a separate application for each different new computer.

Please note that replacement desktop installations are considered a low priority (the user has an existing desktop), and installations are scheduled in the order in which they are received. Do NOT remove your old computer until after your new one is set up. Just prior to the scheduled installation date, you will be contacted by the technician who will be performing the installation. He/she will discuss the details of the installation, your needs for moving data from your old configuration (OCCS does not back up your old data files for you - please be sure to save your files to the network drive, tape or floppy drives prior to the new or upgrade installation), and any issues which have arisen since your initial request. To save time on installation of new systems, please have the computer unboxed at the user's site.

When scheduling your Windows installation, please be aware that you must be present at a couple of points during the installation to log into Netware with your user account. This is required for the configuration of printers and mail.

If you have any questions or comments before, during, or after your Windows installation, please contact the OCCS Technical Support Center at 757.683.3192 or email occshelp@odu.edu.
