In an effort to protect users' email boxes from unwanted email known as "Spam", OCCS has installed an anti-spam system. This system is designed to protect all "@odu.edu" user email addresses from Spam by processing messages received from the Internet. If the messages pass a Spam threshold (a numerical score), messages will be held or discarded based on the Spam processing option you select.
The basic measures enabled for all users are designed to protect in these ways:
- AntiVirus processing is enabled.
- Messages from forged sources are discarded - this is a common tactic for spammers.
Users can Opt Out of anti-spam processing, select from a number of predefined processing rule sets or elect to use the 'Expert Interface' for dealing with potential Spam on-line at www.spamtrap.odu.edu.
For frequently asked questions about Spam, visit the Anti-Spam FAQ. To use the SpamTrap tool visit the Prerequisites page. Occs has prepared a short flyer for users to help users configure the SpamTrap. For more information about Spam Trap and how to configure it, view the on-line documentation.
