HANDHELD SECURITY AND MOBILE NOTES ACCESS
Mobile handheld devices offer a variety of tools to prevent information access from someone other than the owner. With mobile Lotus Notes, the private information that you store in Lotus Notes on campus will now be on your handheld, along with the ability to read, send and receive email in your name.
Losing an unprotected handheld can be compared to logging in to Lotus Notes on a publicly accessible Internet computer terminal and walking away without logging off. The next person to use the terminal would have complete access to your Lotus Notes and all of your private information stored there. It is critical that you become familiar with and implement the security features on your handheld.
Some additional guidelines:
- Do not store authentication username/passwords in memo pads, journals, address books, etc. There are several free or inexpensive programs on the market, both for the desktop PC and handheld devices, that are designed to encrypt and protect this information.
- If your handheld is lost, contact OCCS immediately to disable your mobile Notes account.
